Clermont Man Arrested for Theft of $250,000 in Rare Coins

Recently, a resident in Paisley reported a burglary to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The burglar gained entry to a safe and stole approximately 1000 gold and silver coins, gold bars, and other currency, which had a combined estimated value of $250,000.

A few days later two subjects were located by an off-duty officer with Tavares Police Department at a local coin broker trying to sell a shoe box full of rare coins. TPD and LCSO detectives responded and initiated an investigation.

As a result, Gary Brannon (41) of Clermont was arrested on site for several counts of dealing in stolen property, burglary, and grand theft over $100,000.

Mr. Brannon was also out on bond for felony and misdemeanor drug offenses. As a result, his bond was revoked and Mr. Brannon remains in the Lake County Detention Center without bond currently.

To date, detectives have recovered nearly 90% of the victim’s property. Great job by all involved.
