EUSTIS – July 27, 2023 – Eustis Police Chief Craig Capri disclosed that an arrest has been made following an extensive investigation into the tragic shooting incident that claimed the life of a 39-year-old man, Wseni Laguerre. The incident unfolded on January 30 when Laguerre sustained multiple gunshot wounds at a residence along Palm Avenue. Despite being rushed to a hospital, Laguerre succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities have taken into custody a 27-year-old individual named Austin Hill, hailing from Mount Dora. Chief Capri unveiled that Hill is now facing a charge of first-degree premeditated murder linked to Laguerre’s untimely death.
Austin Hill, who has a documented history of criminal activities, was already in custody due to a prior arrest. His apprehension took place in Orange County based on a warrant. He was concurrently facing charges in Lake County for offenses including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon concerning dating violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and improper exhibition of a firearm.
Chief Capri underscored Hill’s criminal background, emphasizing that he had accumulated 17 felony convictions by the age of 27. Hill’s criminal history includes serving a 10-year sentence for armed robbery, from which he was released in November.
The police chief extended his condolences to the grieving family, acknowledging that this arrest marks the initial step in the journey toward closure. Chief Capri reiterated the significance of delivering justice for Laguerre’s tragic loss and offering unwavering support to his family during this arduous period.
While investigations are ongoing, Chief Capri provided limited insights into the shooting. It has been revealed that Hill was familiar with Laguerre’s identity and had deliberately singled him out before discharging the fatal shots. The police chief had earlier characterized the shooting as “a cold, calculated murder by a coward that walked up to an unarmed person and shot him in front of his residence where his family was inside.”
