TELEPHONE FRAUD WARNING
The Lake County Clerk’s Office warns of fraudulent calls seeking personal information:
TAVARES, FL — The Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller was recently made aware of fraudulent calls claiming to be on behalf of the office. The callers are identifying themselves as an employee of the Clerk’s Office and stating that collection of personal information is needed due to a problem with an electronic filing. “From what we can tell, the number on the caller identification appears as though it is coming from the Clerk’s Office,” said Gary Cooney, Lake County Clerk & Comptroller. “Please be aware that no one from the Clerk’s Office would call to ask for personal information.”
If such a call is received, it is advised that you do not provide any personal information, and end the call immediately. If you have questions related to an electronic filing, or regarding any services provided by the Clerk’s Office, call (352) 742-4100, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
