Recently a rumor on Facebook circulated stating that the Waterfront Park was being closed for recreation due to amoebas in Lake Minneola, however, the city went on to inform the public that Waterfront Park is indeed open and that there is nothing to be concerned about. We reached out to Clermont’s PIO Kathryn Deen who gave the following response:
“About two years ago a false story circulated nationally about amoebas at Lake Minneola. The city debunked it and set the record straight that this was untrue. However, every summer, this rumor seems to recirculate. If there ever was a problem or a verified case, Lake County Water Authority would contact the city immediately and needed information would be shared with the public through our official outlets (website, social media).”
