Clermont Police Respond to Non-Violent Gun Incident at LSSC South Lake Campus

At approximately 2:10pm today, the Clermont Police Department and LSSC Campus Security responded to reports of a non-violent gun incident in the Cooper Memorial Library on the South Lake (Clermont) campus of Lake-Sumter State College.

 

An emergency alert was issued and the entire South Lake campus was placed on lockdown while the situation was investigated.

Clermont Police have arrested a man for discharging a firearm in the bathroom of the Cooper Memorial Library. No one was injured.

An all clear alert was issued to the campus community at 2:40pm. Clermont Police believe this to be an isolated incident. Normal operations have resumed and classes and other events will continue as scheduled.

An increased police presence should be expected on campus while the investigation continues.
