County Seeks Grant Applications for Emergency Food and Shelter Programs

Qualifying emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies are urged to apply for $36,723 in federal funds awarded to Lake County through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) / Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

 

A local board made up of representatives from county government, United Way, the Salvation Army and American Red Cross as well as advocates for the homeless, faith-based organizations and community partners will determine how the funds will be distributed.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:

  • Be a private voluntary nonprofit or unit of government
  • Have a voluntary board established and be eligible to receive federal funds
  • Is a private voluntary organization
  • Have an accounting system
  • Practice nondiscrimination
  • Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and /or shelter programs

Grant funded priorities will include served hot meals, rental assistance and utility assistance.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds may contact Stephanie Glass at 352-742-6519 or at sglass@lakecountyfl.gov. Applications are also available at the Lake County Office of Housing & Human Services, 315 W. Main St., Suite 233, Tavares, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019.
