The following was just released from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Lake County Sheriff’s detectives have been investigating the murder of 39-year-old Timothy Allen West since he was shot and killed in the City of Mascotte on February 10. The Mascotte Police Department initially responded and asked the Sheriff’s Office to take the investigation over.

Through the investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspect as 14-year-old Mar’quez Javon McFarland, who previously resided in Leesburg. Detectives remain confident that the murder was a result of a drug deal.

The US Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force and the Orange County sheriff’s Juvenile Arrest Unit took McFarland into custody at Southwest Middle School on Dr. Phillips Boulevard in Orlando yesterday afternoon. He was turned over to the Division of Juvenile Justice.

Detectives aren’t releasing any further details of the investigation at this point as the investigation is still active an ongoing.
