Groveland Named as 1 of 4 Locations for the Lake County Great American Cleanup

Keep Lake Beautiful (KLB) is inviting volunteers to participate in the Lake County Great American Cleanup sponsored by the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Florida Department of Transportation, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Town of Astatula, Waste Connections Inc., WastePro, and WCA.  The event will be held on Saturday, March 23 from 9 a.m. to noon at the following four locations throughout the county:

• Ace Hardware, 1007 W Broad St. (State Road 50), Groveland
• Corpus Christi Episcopal Church, 3430 County Road 470, Okahumpka
• East Lake Community Park, 24609 Wallick Road, Sorrento
• Joe Swaffer Park, 320 Delaware Ave., Astatula

KLB is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, which started the Great American Cleanup in 1998. The annual event is a litter cleanup initiative designed to aesthetically improve our environment by creating cleaner parks, streetscapes and public spaces through litter removal and elimination. Residents are encouraged to clean their homes and yards and dispose of excess trash, passenger car tires, and any items that could hold water and become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Volunteers are needed to help remove litter along the roadsides throughout the County. KLB will provide gloves, grabbers, safety vests, trash bags and water to those participating in the cleanup. Volunteers must be 16 years or older, or be accompanied by an adult. Participants are encouraged to wear proper attire, sunscreen and insect repellent.

Lake County’s Central Landfill Facility at 13130 County Landfill Road in Tavares will also be holding a Tire Amnesty Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. as part of the Lake County Great American Cleanup. Residents may dispose of up to 24 passenger sized tires during this event, at no cost.
