Lake County Government Offices to Close for Thanksgiving

Trash collection to shift by one day

 

All offices of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections and Tax Collector will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29 for Thanksgiving and will reopen Monday, Dec. 2.

Lake County Solid Waste’s residential curbside collection service will not operate on Thanksgiving. Collections normally picked up on Thursday will shift to Friday and collections normally picked up on Friday will occur on Saturday. Lake County’s Central Solid Waste Facility, located at 13130 County Landfill Road in Tavares, will be closed on Thanksgiving, but will operate normally on Friday and Saturday. Residential convenience centers will be closed both Thursday and Friday. The Pine Lakes Convenience Center, which is usually open on Thursday and Saturdays, will only be open on Saturday.

Except for bulk items, any excess trash or recycling, either bagged or placed into a non-county trash cart, will be accepted from Friday, Nov. 29 – Friday, Dec. 6. To request collection of bulk items, such as furniture, appliances and other large household items, residents should notify their hauler directly or contact Solid Waste at 352-343-3776. Haulers have 72 hours, excluding weekends or holidays, to fulfill the request.

The Lake County Animal Shelter, located at 28123 County Road 561, Tavares, will be closed on Thursday and Friday, and open during regular weekend hours on Saturday, Nov. 30 and Sunday, Dec. 1 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Lake County Connection, the county’s disadvantaged transportation service, and LakeXpress, the fixed-route bus system, will not operate on Thanksgiving, but will resume regular services Friday. For more information and schedules, visit www.ridelakexpress.com.

The Lake County Extension Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares, will be closed both Thursday and Friday. For information about upcoming events hosted by the Extension, visit http://lake.ifas.ufl.edu/.

All 15 Lake County Library System libraries will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29. Four libraries will have normal Saturday hours: Leesburg Public Library, W.T. Bland Public Library, Tavares Public Library and the Umatilla Public Library. The W.T. Bland Public Library will be open as normal on Sunday.

In addition, nine Lake County Library System libraries will close early on Wednesday, Nov. 27: Fruitland Park Library at 3p.m.; Astor County Library, Cagan Crossings Community Library, Cooper Memorial Library, East Lake County Library, Leesburg Public Library, Marion Baysinger Memorial County Library, and Paisley County Library at 5 p.m.; W.T.
