Leesburg, Florida – June 23, 2023
Authorities have taken a significant step towards ensuring public safety as an arrest was made in connection with the discovery of explosive devices in Leesburg. Twenty-two year old Luke Scott Pratt, the defendant, faces charges of manufacturing explosive devices with the intent to cause harm, in violation of Florida State Statute 790.161(j).

The Lake County Hazardous Devices Team was called into action on June 21, 2023, in response to a report regarding five explosive devices located on Casteen Road in Leesburg, Florida. The devices were initially discovered by the defendant’s mother, prompting a swift and coordinated response from law enforcement.
These developments come in the wake of suspicions linking Pratt to an arson incident at the Masonic Lodge in Leesburg, Florida. The Lodge had fallen victim to a destructive fire, and Pratt emerged as a suspect in that incident as well.
Upon inspection of the explosive devices, it was observed that they were composed of plastic material containing a whitish powder-like substance. Each device was equipped with a container that held a suspected aluminum powder substance, accompanied by a hole through which a large firework insert protruded, along with a lightable wick. This configuration raised concerns about the potential explosiveness of the devices.
Certified Bomb Technician Detective J. Demko, based on their experience, suspected the contents of the devices to consist of ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder—chemicals known for their explosive reactions when combined. The size and contents of the devices indicated their potential to cause severe harm or even loss of life.
Subsequent to the discovery of these devices, post-Miranda interviews were conducted with the defendant, Luke Scott Pratt. During these interviews, Pratt reportedly made admissions indicating his involvement in the arson at the Masonic Lodge. He allegedly stated that he had been motivated by a sense of being followed, which led him to commit the arson. Additionally, Pratt revealed that he had contemplated using the explosive devices for the destruction of the Masonic Lodge but ultimately deemed it too hazardous.
The evidence collected at the scene by law enforcement, coupled with Pratt’s statements, played a crucial role in the decision to charge him with five counts of making a destructive device with the intent to cause harm.
