Oakland Issues Precautionary Boil Water Alert

Shortly before 5 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, an equipment malfunction at the Oakland Water Plant caused a temporary reduction in pressure.

This reduced pressure was less than the State minimum guidelines allow for proper water production and delivery. The situation occurred for approximately one hour, as Public Works personnel responded and sorted out the issues. Pressure has been restored, however a boil water notice is in effect until further notice.

All residents and businesses on the Oakland water system should take these precautionary actions. Customers are advised to boil all water used for human consumption, to include drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation – or use bottled water.

Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system can introduce bacteria into the water system. Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

This advisory remains in effect until further notice.
