Arrest Made After Stolen Motorcycle Discovered During Traffic Stop in Minneola

A routine traffic stop on the evening of August 8, 2023, resulted in the arrest of a Minneola resident on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license.

At approximately 5:57 PM on that day, Deputy Sheriff Eaton of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office observed a blue motorcycle traveling east on Oak Valley Blvd in Minneola, Florida. The motorcycle caught the officer’s attention due to its lack of a visible license plate. Reacting swiftly, Deputy Sheriff Eaton activated the overhead emergency lights on their marked patrol vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Upon approaching the driver, who was later identified as William Steven Rohn, Deputy Sheriff Eaton requested identification. Instead of providing a valid driver’s license, Rohn handed over a current Florida identification card. Rohn explained that he was attempting to address mechanical issues on the motorcycle, which he claimed was owned by a friend. He stated that he had taken it for a short ride down the road to test its functionality.

Further investigation revealed that Rohn did not possess a valid driver’s license. Deputy Sheriff Eaton proceeded to inform Rohn of his Miranda rights from a sheriff’s office-approved card. During this interaction, Rohn admitted that he did not hold a valid driver’s license and acknowledged that his driving privileges had been suspended indefinitely.

Rohn confirmed to Deputy Sheriff Eaton that he did not possess a valid driver’s license. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the motorcycle was subsequently checked through the Lake County Sheriff’s Office communications center. The check confirmed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen in Lake County.

Based on this information, Deputy Sheriff Eaton placed William Steven Rohn under arrest for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license with full knowledge of his suspension status. Without any further incident, Rohn was taken into custody and subsequently transported to the Lake County Jail.

Possession of a stolen vehicle and driving with a suspended license are serious offenses that carry significant legal consequences.

We encourage all individuals to comply with traffic laws, maintain valid licenses, and adhere to proper vehicle registration protocols.
