Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Opportunities:
After a hiatus of more than two decades from the world of education, Genise decided to enroll in Lake Tech’s Pharmacy Technician program. Her decision was sparked by stumbling upon a Lake Tech brochure at a local library. Balancing her studies with her role in Environmental Services at UF Health Leesburg Hospital, Genise displayed exceptional dedication throughout the rigorous, yearlong program.
Although she encountered initial difficulties with the basic skills assessment (BSA) math score, Genise’s perseverance led her to enroll in the online BSA remediation course. Juggling her time between mastering the math skills required for her program and diving into the pharmacy curriculum, she invested countless hours in studying. In March, she surpassed the math score required for her program, marking a significant milestone in her journey.
Genise’s unwavering commitment to her studies, coupled with her exceptional attendance and outstanding final grade of 98%, earned her recognition as the most dedicated student in the Pharmacy Technician program. In addition, she was inducted into the esteemed National Technical Honor Society and received the Student of the Month accolade. Despite her own accomplishments, Genise always found time to support and mentor her fellow students, fostering a collaborative and empowering learning environment.
Seizing Opportunities and Looking Ahead:
During her time at Lake Technical College, Genise had the opportunity to complete an internship with UF Health Leesburg Hospital, an experience that further enriched her knowledge and skills. Following her exceptional performance during the internship, she has accepted a position as a General Pharmacy Technician, commencing in July. Laura Chandler, her internship supervisor and the Pharmacy Quality Coordinator at UF Health, commends Genise’s dedication, motivation, and eagerness to learn, expressing excitement about her joining their team.
