Clermont Police to Host Its First Public Safety Youth Academy

The Clermont Police Department will host its first public safety youth academy in June, 2019.

This event will take place June 10 through 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Clermont Police Department Headquarters located at 3600 S. Hwy. 27.  It is open to youth who are residents of Clermont and who are in school grades 8 to 11.  Applicants must also possess a minimum grade point average of 2.5, provide a positive recommendation from a member of their school’s teaching staff, as well as possess an interest in law enforcement and a commitment to completing the academy.

In this academy, the participants will gain an understanding of law enforcement and experience what it is like being a law enforcement officer in the City of Clermont.  The participants will learn aspects of law enforcement and take part in exercises involving the following topics – crime scene investigations, evidence collection, defensive tactics, special response teams, the judicial process and much, much more!

To apply, interested and qualified youth must complete a small application, along with a letter of recommendation, and submit all signed paperwork to the Clermont Police Department before April 29, 2019.  If interested, please contact Sergeant Malcolm Draper at (352) 536-8412, or  Applicants must hurry as space is limited for this exciting week long event!
