UCF Students to Present Walking Road Audit Results During Community Workshop

As part of an ongoing Master Plan Study of the Mount Plymouth-Sorrento Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA,) graduate students in the Urban and Regional Planning Program at University of Central Florida’s School of Public Administration will be hosting a community workshop on Tuesday, April 2 at 6 p.m. at Sorrento Elementary, 24605 Wallick Road, Sorrento.

Students, professors and county staff recently completed a walking-road audit to identify infrastructure deficiencies and general community health needs within the Mount Plymouth and Sorrento Communities. Lake County’s Department of Geographic Information Services, in conjunction with UCF’s Department of Information Technology and Resources, developed a comprehensive survey mechanism for the students to use on their mobile phones as they assessed the study area along State Road 46. Findings from this audit will be presented at the community workshop as well as other work prepared by the students, focusing on the redevelopment of SR 46 as a vibrant commercial corridor. Other topics discussed will include community identity, growth management, and policy implications.

The county is inviting community residents and business owners to attend and provide feedback and ideas that will help students develop a comprehensive master plan. Community input will guide and inform future growth and development within the CRA, while also providing a comprehensive assessment of critical pedestrian and community related issues. For more information, contact the Community Services Department at 352-742-6589.
