Lake County Receives Budget Award for Seventh Consecutive Year

Lake County has accepted the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its annual budget for the seventh consecutive year.

The award represents a significant achievement and reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the budget award, the organization must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. Lake County was assessed on how well the county’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories.

“Lake County’s Office of Management and Budget is committed to adhering to the highest standards in governmental budget preparation, and we are proud to again be recognized with such a prestigious national honor,” said Jennifer Barker, Lake County Executive Director of Administrative Services.

The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the highest quality; reflecting both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting. The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 18,000 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
